The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITx) will be inaugurated on November 5. The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) is the country’s first integrated and multimodal terminal in the southwestern part of Metro Manila with airport-like features. The facility will serve as a transfer point between the provincial buses of Cavite and Batangas.
The Php3.5-billion facility was built in hopes that it will reduce the number of provincial buses plying Metro Manila and give every commuter an efficient and seamless travel. This landport will also provide interconnectivity between different transport modes and services. Early this October, PITx suppose to have its soft opening, however, it was postponed at the last minute for still unexplained reasons.
Initially called Southwest Integrated Terminal Exchange (SWITEx), this landport facility will serve provincial buses and public utility vehicles passing through the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) and Coastal Road. It was one of the public-private partnership (PPP) infrastructure projects awarded by the Aquino administration and continued by the Duterte government.
The announcement was done through a video posted by DOTr in their official Facebook page. The transportation agency introduced the PITx as a “friendly solution” for commuters who struggled every day. It also boasts its capacity to hold several transport options ranging from buses to jeepneys, UV Express vans, and taxis; automated ticketing and queuing systems; scheduled trips; and modern facilities similar to airports.Months after it official operation, DOTr vows that PITx will also have a clinic, breastfeeding station, a supermarket, shopping and dining options, payment centers, and recreational hubs such as salons and spas. The country’s first landport is expected to accommodate 100,000 passengers daily. The PITX was bid out as a public-private partnership project in 2014 during the Aquino Administration under a concession agreement with MWM Terminals, a consortium of Megawide Construction Corporation and WM Property Management. The companies will operate the PITX for 35 years before giving it to the government.PITX is one of the projects the Aquino Administration that was passed and be completed in the Duterte Administration according to Official GovPH.
