Most of us probably love eating instant noodles. It is easy to eat, convenient, and tasty. However, we are sometimes ignorant on the underlying effects of this instant food. On November 16 during the Medical Conference Highlight, Dr. Raymond Escalona shared what he studied on the ingredients written on the packaging of instant noodles.
According to him, the ingredients present on instant noodles have a lot of side effects that can cause numerous serious diseases.
At the conference, he featured a particular brand of instant noodle, Lucky Me Pancit Canton. On the back of the packaging itself, it can be read the ingredients used that includes wheat flour, vegetable oil. salt, carbonates, sodium triphosphate, potassium sorbate, disodium 5 inosinate, disodium 5 guanylates, artificial chicken flavor, silicon dioxide (highlighted red), and colorant.
Silicon dioxide, also known as silica, is a chemical compound that is an oxide of silicon. Inhaling finely divided crystalline silica is toxic and can lead to severe inflammation of the lung tissue, silicosis, bronchitis, lung cancer, and systemic autoimmune disease.
Moreover, the crystalline silica has been classified as a human lung carcinogen. Additionally, breathing crystalline silica dust can cause silicosis, which in severe cases can be disabling, or even fatal.
It also increases blood pressure, causing kidney damage, inflammation, dizziness, overweight, and cancer. It is important to lessen, even to avoid eating instant noodles before something fatal may happen.
