7. Stop the hiccups.
Hiccups happen when the diaphragm spasms. It can be caused by eating too quickly, swallowing too much air, and sudden temperature changes in the stomach. To stop your hiccups, try opening your mouth and reflexively swallow for a few minutes. This will calm your spasms in your diaphragm.
